Uber Eats or Deliveroo in Mauritius? Here is what locals actually use

The short answer

No: Uber Eats is not available in Mauritius, and neither is Deliveroo. You can download them, type your address in Grand Baie or Flic en Flac, and watch the screen shrug: no coverage, no restaurants, no riders. The same goes for the other big international delivery names. They have simply never launched here.

That surprises a lot of visitors, and a fair few returning Mauritians. But it does not mean you are stuck cooking: it just means food delivery on the island runs on local apps, built here, for these roads and these addresses. Check the food delivery zones to see exactly who delivers where.

Which delivery apps are available in Mauritius?

The quick availability check, app by app:

AppAvailable in Mauritius?
Uber EatsNo
DeliverooNo
Just Eat / Takeaway.comNo
FoodpandaNo
GlovoNo
DoorDashNo
OnlyEatYes, the Mauritian app

A handful of other local services exist alongside restaurant-run delivery, but none of the global platforms above serves the island. Wondering about the big chains instead? We mapped fast food delivery too, McDonald’s and KFC included.

Why the global apps never landed

Mauritius is a small market, a long way from the giants’ logistics hubs, with its own payment habits (Juice transfers are king) and address quirks that no global algorithm loves: “after the boutik, second blue gate, the house with the mango tree”. Whatever the exact reasons, the outcome has been stable for years: the international platforms watch from afar, and the local scene grew to fill the gap.

The upside is real. A local app is bilingual by default, takes local payment, and its riders actually know that second blue gate.

Is Uber Eats or Deliveroo coming to Mauritius?

Nothing has ever been announced. Neither company lists Mauritius among its markets or has communicated any launch plan, and nothing suggests that is about to change. If it ever does, you will hear about it long before the first scooter rolls; in the meantime, planning your dinner around it is a hungry strategy.

So how do you get food delivered in Mauritius?

With OnlyEat, the Mauritian food delivery app. The routine takes two minutes:

  1. Download the app on iOS or Android, free.
  2. Set your address, home, hotel, office or villa.
  3. Browse the restaurants that really deliver to you, with menus and live customer ratings.
  4. Pay securely by card or Juice, then track your rider live on the map to your door.

Coverage runs across the west, the north and the centre of the island, from Flic en Flac to Grand Baie by way of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill, and it keeps growing.

Just landed? Three quick tips

  • Hotels and villas are normal delivery spots here. Put the establishment’s name in the delivery note and meet the rider at reception.
  • Order before the rush. Lunch peaks at 12:15 and dinner around 19:30; a slightly earlier order beats the wave.
  • No cash panic. Cards work everywhere in the app, and if you have a Mauritian Juice account, that works too.

What should you order first?

Skip the safe bets you can eat anywhere and go local: a dholl puri, a mine frit, a proper cari or a fish daube from the best Creole kitchens on the island. That first delivery is your welcome dinner; make it taste like Mauritius.
